Who cares? Jerry's dead. Bob Weir is 59 and musically dead. As long as there are deadheads alive, there will be someone making money off them. Get a life.

Whoa, little harsh there don't ya think? Maybe the Dead is not what is used to be but those members are still rock'n. Last time I checked they could put on a pretty good show for example, Summer Getaway, Shoreline Amphitheatre, 09-19-03. I have to say, their rendetion of ShakeDown Street kicked some series butt!

I also saw tapers there, and, as a matter of fact, have the great joy of enjoying this particular show any time as I have it in my collection.

So, are the GD gone as we knew them, yes. Are they truly 'Dead', no; something I think we should all REMEMBER because, when THEY ARE 'all gone', then nothing will be the same and it will be up to us, the people who have loved this band, through thick and thin, to carry on and preserve the legacy.

Peace

Weir is musically dead? Is that a Grateful "Dead" pun, or are you just another over-opinionated critic? Opinions are like assholes and everybody's got one, but it doesn't necessarily mean everybody has to be one. If, in fact, you are submitting the comment that Bob's vitality is a thing of the past, then I hope you're not taking up valuable audience space at any of the Ratdog shows. I'm going to the Fox in St. Louis tomorrow because I cherish every chance I get to absorb what the man and his band serve up. He puts his all into every moment on stage, and those of us who appreciate what he does will be there to cheer him on anytime he rolls into town. Sure, it's pretty much official that he has arrived at the status of being an old fart, but that does not mean it has made him creaky. The fucker rocks, dude, make no mistake about it. If not, then why would guys who are so much younger than him, like Kenny and Jeff, want to stay in his band all these years? If you think Weir is musically dead, then I would suggest you take your business elsewhere. I've been going to Grateful Dead shows for just shy of 30 years now, and there are few things that irritate me more than hearing people who purport themselves to be fans of the music, or even, God forbid, people actually who declare themselves to be Deadheads sitting around bitching about this, that, and whatever the fuck else they can come up with to talk shit about the Dead. They (the Grateful Dead) were/are not perfect and never claimed to be, but I'll be damned if I've ever found anyone or anything else that even approaches them as far as how deeply into a person's soul that they could/can reach, touch, and forever affect in a visceral, spiritual, and just downright ass-kickin', fun-lovin', let-the-good-times-roll kinda way.

But again, opinions are like . . . well . . . and that's just mine.

Nicely stated. I had to re-read your response to make sure your words of, and rightfully so, anger and frustration were not directed at me but the indvidual who started the strand.

The shows were a magic time for me. Great times, good sound, wonderful people. And, you are correct, the Dead never proclained they were perfect and Jerry never wanted to be idolized either. The very thought of it made him uncomfortable.

As I said in my post, the members of what was previously known as the Grateful Dead are still rock'n in many varied formats and their shows are wonderful. Peace.

Not so much anger and frustration as disgust and irritation. Is there a difference? Whatever. Thanks for the support, though.
One More Saturday Night w/Bobby & the Dog at the Fox in St. Louis did not dissapoint in the least. Weir's voice is amazingly strong and clear and his command of the music has not waned whatsoever.

So there, all you naysayers.
